My August column in the Stockport Express
Parliament has been in summer recess since the end of July and will return on 2nd September. Recess enables MPs to spend more time in our constituencies, meeting constituents and organisations in our community, an opportunity I am grateful for.

This is my first article in the Stockport Express since my re-election as the Member of Parliament for Stockport in the General Election on 4th July.

Thank you, Stockport!
I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to have been re-elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Stockport, with an increased majority of 15,270.
Labour has saved the NHS before. If elected on 4th July, we will do so again.
The Conservatives cannot be trusted with the NHS. Every time they are in government, they run our health service into the ground, dragging down standards and pushing up waiting times to record highs. As the graph below shows, this is truer in 2024 than ever before, despite the hard work of NHS staff.
Launching Labour’s Bold Plan For Skills Expansion, Job Creation and Economic Growth in the North West
I am proud to support Labour's ambitious plan for job creation and skills expansion in the North West, which was launched in Stockport last week. I joined Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram at Stockport Interchange to officially announce the proposals.
Breaking down the Barriers to Opportunity: Labour’s Plan for Schools
Research from the National Education Union shows that 84% of schools in Stockport constituency have suffered cuts to funding in real terms since 2010. These cuts equate to a loss of over £5.4 million from schools’ budgets and a £483 fall in funding for each pupil in Stockport constituency. This is unacceptable.
General Election 2024: My Pledges to the People of Stockport
I am dedicated to restoring our crumbling public services, tackling the housing crisis and improving pay and conditions at work. After fourteen years of Conservative chaos, only Labour will create a brighter future for Stockport and Britain.
Questioning the Prime Minister About the Crumbling State of Stepping Hill Hospital
I raised the unacceptable condition of the Stepping Hill estate with the Prime Minister during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday 8th May. I felt that it was imperative to raise the issues at Stepping Hill with the Prime Minister directly – to demand that he acknowledge the damaging consequences of his government’s neglect of our NHS, endangering both patients and hardworking NHS staff in our community.

Stockport Gin, a renowned independent distillery, recently made its mark in the heart of British
politics as it secured a spot on the shelves of the Strangers' Bar in the House of Commons.

Mr Mishra commented, “I am so honoured to represent Stockport County in the House of Commons. As a historic team with a dedicated local fanbase, County are a huge source of pride, identity and community in Stockport, and continue to do us all proud.”

After years of chaos under the Conservatives, I am proud to support Labour’s recently-announced plans to overhaul Britain’s broken railways and get local train services back on track.

Navendu Mishra MP demands government funds to fix "crumbling" Stepping Hill Hospital
I raised the unacceptable state of Stepping Hill Hospital - which after fourteen years of government neglect and underfunding is quite literally crumbling - in the House of Commons this week.
High streets are the lifeblood of communities like ours - Labour has a plan to help them thrive
With rising numbers of shops shutting their doors and shoplifting and antisocial behaviour on the rise, Britain’s high streets are showing the signs of fourteen years of neglect. That’s why I am pleased to back Labour’s 5-point plan to support the Great British high street to thrive.
The Conservatives’ broken private rail system is failing Stockport and failing Britain
The issues plaguing Stockport station demonstrate the failures of privatisation and franchising. We need to take the railways back into public ownership and restore pride and dignity to the network again.
