Boundary Commission Proposals 2022

Boundary Commission Proposals for the new Stockport constituency

The Boundary Commission for England has now published their proposals for constituencies, having commenced the final consultation period of the constituency review which will close on 5th December.

Each Member of Parliament represents a single parliamentary constituency and the boundaries of these are reviewed from time to time. This is to account for population changes that may have changed in intervening years.

The current boundaries were implemented at the 2010 General Election in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and at the 2005 General Election in Scotland.

The proposals published by the Boundary Commission today have an impact on the make-up of Stockport constituency, which I will outline below.

The current wards in the constituency of Stockport are as follows:

  • Brinnington and Central

  • Davenport and Cale Green

  • Edgeley and Cheadle Heath

  • Heatons North

  • Heatons South

  • Manor

Under the Boundary Commission’s proposals, Manor ward would be removed from Stockport constituency and fall under Hazel Grove, and Stockport constituency would gain the wards of Reddish North and Reddish South. If the proposals pass, this would mean the following wards make up Stockport constituency:

  • Brinnington and Central

  • Davenport and Cale Green

  • Edgeley and Cheadle Heath

  • Heatons North

  • Heatons South

  • Reddish North

  • Reddish South
